i was doubting getting this game reading all the reviews and it was half and half on good and bad, but all in all i can honestly say its a great game, verry addicting and passes time by when you have nothing else to do i reccomend it to everyone, 30$ is a great price for it!

it gets a little repetitive beut this game is fun, with very open maps, and is entertaining for hours.

I have always loved this game, from my C64 days. On my mac book pro though the transitions from one scene to another is jittery. That is I am sailing and sail into port, game is jittery for a second. Now in town I select visit governor, game is jittery for a second. Still a great game but the jittery parts can be distracting and gets old. Hope I can find a solution, but so far havent noticed any settings that have helped.

Games content is awesome but it crashed sometime.

I used to play the game, so I knew what I was buying. Still, on Mavericks there are problems with the graphics that did not exist before. As they sell it now (whem Mavericks is the OS of choice) I think they should fix the problem.

I have always loved this game…since playing it on my Commodore when I was a kid. This version is a nice walk down memory lane…it runs very well on any modern Mac. If you are looking for fun…and love pirating…this is a great adventure game.

I have loved this game since it was released for the Apple IIGS. The fact this game has been released again for Mac OS X totally made my week. If ANYONE is into Pirates I could not recommend this game more. This game should totally include an addiction warning (joking)!

In a weird, creepy twist of events, I thought to myself "I really wish they had this game on the app store," walked over to my computer, opened the App Store and saw this featured. This was one of my favorite games as a kid and remains very very good.

This game really stands the test of time. Ive played this game in almost every form I can get my hands on, and its still fun for me today. Faithful to the original in many ways, this remake is now several years old, having been out for many years on the PC and XBox. The game itself has changed surprisingly little since the original versions debuted back in the 80s. If youve played a prior version, youll feel right at home with this modern represenation. If youve played the PC version, then you already know what this is. For those who havent played it, the game basically puts you in command of a ship (or fleet) to do with as you like. You can set out on missions to discover your lost family, seek out lost treasures and cities of gold, or even wage war on the various empires and their settlements. You can hunt down the other pirates on the waters or try to romance the ladies for political and material gain. The calandar races on and you live a pirates career trying to accomplish all you can before you have to eventually retire. Starting a new game can mean sitting down to a full days gaming commitment or just a few minutes out at sea sinking the enemy and plundering their treasures. What you choose to do in the game can drastically alter what kind of game you ultimately end up playing. Conquoring all of the settlements under the Spanish flag, for example, is a much more difficult goal than simply going on a treasure hunt. The open ended nature makes this the sort of game you could find yourself playing over and over again, even many years later. Highly recommended!

Love this game, have spent nothing but on it for the last 2 days. The only problem Ive had is that it periodically quits on me. After a few times of that and losing my progess, I started saving often and for some reason it hasnt quit since I started doing that.

Great game, but there is a realy bad glitch that gets your ship stuck on the shore with no way to get off.

I used to play the original version of this game back on a DOS computer and loved it. I had actually been looking to see if this game had been re-released about a week or 2 before I found it. Fantastic re-do of this game but keeps very true to the original. Definitely recommend this game!

The only gripe I have with Pirates! is the inability to customize your controls. Other than this small set back, if youre looking for something light (as opposed to Sid Meiers Civ Series) and fun, this is your game.

It runs great and has fantastically fun open ended story/play setting. You can choose to interact with the game world however you like. My only complaint is that the controls for laptops are a bit awkward. The game on the computer originally required a keyboard with a "Number Pad" which was absurd even back then. On the laptop theyve created this virtual keypad that shows what letters the controls are "bound" to. The font for this is really hard to read and for the longest time I thought the binding for "move left" was the letter "V" where it in fact is the letter "U"..... Since realizing this, Ive become a master ballroom dancer and a pimp of the seas loved by many a lady.

My first serious game on an Apple computer, this and Wings of Fury... When I upgraded to a Mac I lost the ability to play the game, so I bought an Xbox just for this game, when it came out. I’m so glad to have it back on my computer. My son, from child to adult, and I have had many happy times playing this game... ARRRRR MATEY!!!!!!!
